Flexible Packaging

Polyester and (r)PET raw materials for the production of Flexible Packaging

Polyester (PET) is increasingly becoming a significant material in the flexible packaging.

The use of it is interesting for the following markets:

  • Food & Beverage Industry
  • E-commerce
  • Personal Care and Cosmetics
  • Sustainable Packaging Solutions

Flexible packaging is used to achieve weight reduction and preserve product freshness and protection. It extends shelf life by protecting the contents from environmental factors such as light, oxygen, moisture and mechanical impactwhich could affect the quality and taste of food. For the packaging converter and its logistics chain, Flexible Packaging uses fewer resources and less energy than other forms of packaging. It provides significant reductions in packaging costs, material use, and transport costs.

Flexible Packaging offers a number of sustainability advantages throughout the entire life cycle of the packed product, compared to other forms of packaging. Whether you produce mono- or multilayer, cast or blown filmoriented or unoriented, DuFor has a variety of high-quality thermoplastic polyesters to meet your packaging requirements.

Flexible Packaging and recycling

Despite the number of sustainability benefits, there are challenges facing the Flexible Packaging industry. The largest challenge with flexible packaging today is the lack of recycling options for multi-layer films, which are difficult to separate into their various material substrates. Although challenging, our specialists support you in the development of more sustainable packaging solutions. This can be by designing monomaterial, new formulations or by addition of recycled content (approved for direct food contact).

Tailor-made virgin polyesters

We have developed a range of raw materials especially designed for Flexible Packaging applications for fresh meat, fish, cheese, meals, etc. This can be sausage casings, pouches, (cooking) bags and shrink bags. Our polyester specialties, which are branded CumaStretchCumaBatch, and CumaPET, help you achieve the highest quality packaging.

All of our raw materials are designed to offer the highest standards in terms of health and safety and, at the minimum, fulfill all of the relevant safety and food regulations. In many cases, however, we can even fulfill more strict demands. For example, because of the increasing concerns with respect to antimony in food packaging, we have developed several raw materials that are antimony free.

Technical Support

We can offer you exceptional support. Thanks to our close collaboration with equipment manufacturers and the extensive experience of our R&D and technical support teams in polymer processing and application development. We assist in selecting the appropriate polymers, determining optimal processing parameters, and choosing the right equipment. This ensures we meet your specific packaging requirements effectively.
